The finished RipRap surface remains plainly stoned rather than looking like loose small aggregate, which is useful at Nebraska locations exposed to persistent flow. Along the Platte River, water can work at open banks and drainage edges; eastern loess can slump when saturated. The material is intended to armor exposed soil in those areas.
Cattle pen runoff routes and center-pivot access areas may need protection where water reaches an unprotected slope or culvert exit. Lay RipRap across the exposed bank or channel section that carries the flow, so the stone shields soil along the route. In the Sandhills, fast drainage does not remove the need to protect a concentrated water path. Its heavy pieces are suited to places where lighter aggregate can be displaced. That coverage is useful wherever flowing water repeatedly meets an exposed edge. Plan the coverage around the actual drainage path.

Solid erosion fix, took extra tons to finish
The bank along our stretch of the creek has been sliding into the water a little more every spring since the flood a few years back, and it finally got bad enough to lose part of the fence line. Ordered ten tons of riprap to armor the worst hundred feet and stacked it two layers deep with the loader, working from the flattest spot down toward the water. Held through one big spring runoff already without a single rock shifting out of place. Only issue is we ended up needing almost three more tons to finish the last stretch, which meant a second delivery before the job was done.

Culvert washout is finally under control
The culvert under our lane kept washing out every time the creek ran high after a big rain, tearing up the road every spring. Nebraska Rock Supply delivered seven tons of riprap and we packed it around both ends of the pipe.
