Drain Rock is clean, washed aggregate with fines and dust absent from the material. Its open spaces provide a route for collected water in retaining-wall backfill, a French drain, or a septic field. Near the Platte River, naturally gravelly ground can still need a defined drainage section where water is being managed close to a structure.
Freeze-thaw conditions make it important to protect that drainage section from surrounding soil that can migrate into it. Worked well for the shop's drainage problem
The back corner of our shop lot has flooded every spring because of how the ground slopes, so we finally ran a proper French drain this year, about seven tons of drain rock along sixty feet of pipe. Dug the trench ourselves over a couple weekends and had it delivered along the fence line where the truck could reach without crossing the gravel lot we just redid. Stone is clean, no fines washing into the pipe, and drains fast even during heavy spring storms. Only complaint is a handful of chunks were bigger than we expected and had to be set aside before use.
